General Sightseeing and Orientation in Bruges

Known as 'the Venice of the North' Bruges is a medieval city which has been excellently preserved.
Bruges is beautiful in the summer as well as in the winter, the most popular months being May - October.
With virtually no cars being allowed in the city centre the best way to see Bruges is on foot the main focus being the Market Square (Markt).
The Burg Square is also a must if you want to see some of the most elaborate houses in the city and is home to the 'The Basilica of the Holy Blood' where you will find a small phial said to contain Christ's blood.
For a romantic stroll visit the Begijnhof and the Minnewater (Lake of Love), which is home to the Swans of Bruges.

Located at Oude Gentweg the Diamond Museum is dedicated to the history of diamond polishing in Bruges offering demonstrations and displays.

Kantcentrum (Lace Centre)

Location: Jeruzalemstraat

The Kantcentrum is a working museum focused on the ancient art of lacemaking. Visitors can watch the lace being made by hand including the famous bloemenwerk, rozenkant and toversesteek laces. There is also a shop onsite selling the lace made in the workshop. The admission ticket for the Kantcentrum is also valid for the nearby Jeruzalemkerk (Jerusalem Church).

De Gouden Boom Brewery Museum

De Gouden Boom is one of Bruge's major breweries and has been operating since 1587. The museum is located in the Old Malt House dating from 1902 with exhibits featuring many of the breweries situated in the city around the turn of the 20th Century. The brewery itself can be visited by a pre-booked guided tour, which includes the chance to sample some of the beers made on site.

The Windmills of Bruges

The park to the northeast of the city walls between Kruispoort and Dampoort is home to a number of windmills.
The Sint Janshuismolen, which was built on 1770 is open daily to the public with free entry from April to September. The Coeleweymolen originally built in 1765 was moved to this site and rebuilt in 1996 this is also open daily between June and September.

The Boudewijnpark is a theme park with dolphinarium and is located just outside of the city centre. The park is great for visitors of all ages and offers shows throughout the day.

Belfry Tower

The Belfry Tower offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city. Visitors are allowed to climb the 366 steps to the top of the tower and view the 47 bell carillion and remarkable clock mechanism.

City Park Biesbroek + Observatory

The City Park Biesbroek is a country park covering around 200 acres, with forests, heath-land, picnic-grounds, and a deer-compound. The park is also home to the Biesbroek Observatory where visitors can watch the sun, stars and planets. There are also regular exhibitions and slide shows.

Museum of folklore

The Museum of Folklore offers an insight into the traditional Flemish way of life. The Museum is located in 17th-century almshouses and offer reconstructed displays of various setting including a Flemish living room, bedroom, cobbler's workshop and an apothecary's premises.
