Set in an imposing gabled house, the family run Gartwhinzean Hotel was built in the 18th century and is surrounded by Scotland's Ochil Hills. The hotel is 30 miles from both Edinburgh and Glasgow. Guestrooms take inspiration from the surrounding countryside, presenting pastel and pine suites alongside mountain views. All have cable televisions and private bathrooms stocked with complimentary toiletries. The hotel has two restaurants; the wood paneled, candle lit Piano Restaurant and the fireside, tartan bedecked Copper Bistro, both of which serve up Scottish specialties and panoramic views of the landscape. Guests also find a separate bar, a chess room, a library of books and staff who can help guests with directions to the area's sights. The Ochil provides gorges, rivers and grassy rises aplenty for the walking enthusiast. The journey to and from Edinburgh Airport is best taken by car (driving time is 30 minutes and distance 26 miles; non drivers will be best off making use of the hotel's personal transfer service.
